Case Study
Carleton McKenna is currently representing a second-generation, familyowned and operated water park resort. Carleton McKenna (“CM&Co”) was engaged to run a full-scale sell-side transaction process, with the goal of maximizing valuation and preserving the family’s hard-earned legacy.
After a comprehensive, custom-built and accelerated marketing process, CM&Co created a competitive bidding environment between multiple strategic and financial buyers, one being the owners’ preference due to cultural fit and expertise. CM&Co was able to successfully navigate the company’s on- and off-season peaks, enabling management to stay focused on the business, while facilitating appropriate access to interested parties.
Given the competitive dynamics and CM&Co’s thoughtful negotiation around both purchase price and structure, the preferred buyer increased their initial bid by 12% to surpass other bidders and secure exclusivity with the company. The additional value created by CM&Co conducting our competitive sale process was ~10x greater than the success fee earned on the transaction.
